Gun Laws Must Be Changed
Guns are one reason to why people are dying.
Dear New President,
Gun control is not one issue, it’s many issues. From safety issues to educational issues, racial issue, and political issue, many innocent people are harmed from this action. Gun control should be the first thing to make changes to because of age restriction and the fact that many people are getting killed each year for dreadful purpose usages. The first reason is age restriction because every state has its own restriction, which doesn’t seem like an acceptable idea. According to smartgunlaws.org, every day in the U.S., nine people under the age of 21 die from gun shots. That is because the age restriction is so low, more people can buy guns. For an example, in California, people must be 21 to buy a handgun, while in Vermont the age limit is 16. Why is there a difference? It would be the best idea if all the U.S. states had just one age restriction to buy a gun. To prevent getting more people killed every year, the age limit should change between 25 years to 30 years.
The second reason is purpose usage because many people that buy a gun usually kill someone or a group of people. The purpose of a gun to many people is to kill something.(Honeywell) It’s a weapon that has enough power to kill anyone.(Honeywell) So what is really the point of a gun being used? They should only be used if there really is a purposeful reason. It would be better if guns were just banned in the U.S. That way, there would be less chaos in this country. According to washingtonpost.com, it’s said, “There is no right to bear arms for the French, and to own a gun, you need a hunting or sporting license which needs to be repeatedly renewed and requires a psychological evaluation.” This is the kind of laws America needs. The people that would necessarily need it is the police, U.S. army, and the U.S. Navy. That way if the army navy were in war, they wouldn’t have a disadvantage between the other team.
The last thing that should be changed is the news because the most amount of things they show are shooting related. Based off of many people who watch the news, most of the news is about what has happened in your area. Everyday, at least one of them is about shooting. When people see this kind of stuff, they get cautious about their surroundings. And if it was a child watching it, they might learn to do this kind of stuff when they grow up. So it would be best if they didn’t have to show this kind of stuff everyday to frighten others. All and all, the one thing that should be different for the following years is gun control so we can make Earth a better place. Thank you for taking your time to read this letter.
