Gun licensing

Defending the 2nd amendment responsibly

Mr./Mrs. President,

I would like to congratulate you on being elected the 45th President of The United States of America. I hope you will make a very good President. Since you are President, there is one problem with our nation that I would like you to fix, the gun policy. According to the second amendment of the constitution of the United States, it is our right to bear firearms. Yes, guns do kill over 100,000 people a year in the United States, but they are our defense. Firearms are used 2.5 million times each year to protect a person from robberies, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. People are twelve times more likely to die from an automobile accident then a gun. Now think about hunters. They need guns. If they live off the grid, guns are essential for their everyday survival. If you ban guns, what are they expected to do? They depend on firearms just as much as you depend on your bodyguards.

There are a couple of questions you will have to ask yourself if you decide to ban guns. If you ban guns will the percentage of crimes go up or down? In Australia when they banned guns, the handheld gun crime rate increased by 40%. Also, if you ban guns, a couple of months before the ban takes place, people will begin hoarding guns. Another question is what impact will this ban have on the economy? Gun manufactures in the United States account for 220,000 jobs which would be effected if a ban on guns were to occur. The last question is to think about is the nation’s safety? If you do decide to ban guns, the crime rate percentage will increase because people will not have guns to defend themselves. Those are three important questions you may want to take into consideration.

The one thing I would like you to change are gun licenses and registering. In the United States only six states have laws requiring all firearms to be registered. I would like you to make a law requiring all states in the United States to register their firearms. Another thing I would like you to change is the licensing requirements of firearms. I believe licensing firearms is very important as is requiring gun owners to take a gun safety course. I would like you to make two laws about one thing, firearm safety courses. Not all of the states require gun owners to take a safety course, which is dangerous and scary. People are dying because they do not properly know how to properly handle a gun. Please enforce a law for all of the states requiring gun owners to take a safety course before handling, or possessing a firearm. For licensing I would like to make a point for renewing. I think every year when they renew their license, they should take a mini safety course online, just to make sure they are handling their firearms properly.

I think if these laws were established, the United States would be a safer place. Mr./Mrs. President I would like to thank you for your time for reading this letter, and hope that you take these ideas into consideration.

Thank You, Anne Marie
