Affordable College in America
I think college should be made more affordable throughout the United States. So many people are in debt and it needs to be dealt with.

Dear Next President,
I think college should be more affordable for everybody in America. It’s unfair to those who want to go to a really good college but can’t, because they’re unable to afford it. I want to see everyone able to go to the college of their dreams, not just the kids who can pay.
All over America millions of students are in debt. Allie Bidwell, a writer for U.S.News, reports that “the average amount of student loan debt… is approaching $30,000”. That is insane and needs to be dealt with. This leaves students in debt for decades. It might also force students to choose a different career path simply because they need money to pay all of it off. There is one particular person I can think of that also wants this issue to be dealt with.
In the article “It’s Time to Make College Tuition Free and Debt Free”, Bernie Sanders says “if the taxpayers of this country could bailout Wall Street in 2008, we can make public colleges and universities tuition free and debt free throughout the country.” Plenty of other countries like Germany, Finland, Norway, Sweden, etc, have free college. If other countries can do this so can we. I’m not saying we should make college entirely free, but definitely more reasonable and therefore more equitable.
Please take my issue into consideration. You can raise taxes and help millions of bright young students go to college. By raising the taxes we would put more money towards public colleges and universities, just like we do with public schools already. Students in America would be very thankful in getting the education they need. I am a sophomore in high school and college is not that far down the road. It’s never too early to start thinking about your future. I hope you enjoy your stay in the White House.
Best Wishes,
Dominga
