Homelessness

Homelessness is a large issue in America. How can we fix it?

Dear Future President,

There are so many issues in our society, and I am sure that there is a lot for you to do and focus on but I hope you can listen to my perspective on one specific issue in our society. That issue is homelessness. Linda Lingle once said, "We have come dangerously close to accepting the homeless situation as a problem that we just can't solve." Homelessness is often viewed as unsolvable, but I believe that we can do something about it.

On a given night in January of 2015, 564,780 people were homeless. There are so many people out there who need our help to get homes. I understand that there are efforts being made to help people who are homeless, but I believe that you, Mr. or Mrs. President, can make a big difference in the homeless population. I think that more efforts need to be put into finding homeless people and getting them help.

Many people are making an effort to help homeless people improve their lifestyle. One specific organization that helps the homeless is the Volunteers of America, which is an organization that works to prevent and end homelessness. They not only work to give people homes but to get them job training so that they can keep their homes. Some people are reluctant to leave the streets, so they provide many drop-in centers so that people can get used to the staff and work their way to permanent housing. Another type of service that they provide is transitional housing. This helps people get permanent homes and a stable lifestyle so that they can keep thier homes. Permanent supportive housing helps people with mental and physical disabilities live in a house with help.

I think that there are many ways for people to help the homeless. Volunteering in homeless shelters is one way to help the homeless. Also, giving money to organizations like Volunteers of America gives them more money to do their job of helping the homeless. Even giving a few dollars to the people in the street corners can help homeless people.

I think that solving the problem of homelessness will take a long time, but it can be done! I think we need more long-term shelters that will try to teach people and help them get a job. Also, I think we need to make an effort to find homeless people so we can help them. I think that homelessness is a complicated issue that needs more than one option to solve, but I think we can fix this problem. I hope that you will do something to help the homeless in our country!

Sincerely,
