Gun control

There is a need to change life for many and stop the violence.

Dear Future President,

Lately our country has been going through some increasing violence due to guns. I believe our country or state should be a better and safer place for us citizens of America. We shouldn't worry when the next person will die or if it will be a friend, family, or us ending up dead. I believe we should live without fear in a place with less worry. We need to do something about the issue - anything that'll help. We should be stricter about gun control due to all the innocent lives being lost or in danger.

This year in Oklahoma death rates and the violence have increased. Students have been involved now where they're the ones hurting others or being hurt. We had a student this year die from a shooting outside of school. Friends and family were hurt and mourning for the inoccent life lost. We had another incident happen here in Oklahoma where a student or students went to a football game and started shooting. Few were hurt, but it seems that the violence is getting out of hand. Guns are being used by people with bad intentions. Many of these people with weapons in their houses are being irresponsible by having it near children and teens. I believe we shouldn't have children living in an unsafe environment. The article "After Orlando, Chicago Archbishop urges outreach to gun control" explains, " 49 lives were lost and 53 people were wounded". These accidents are examples of why we should have stricter gun control before the the violence gets even worse.

Many others belive that we should have better gun control, but others think otherwise. President Obama tried to settle things and did what he could to try and stop this violence going on around the U.S.  I feel like the ones against stricter gun control feel like guns are what keeps them safe. I do think that having a gun at home may protect you at some moment, but it does cause problems especially when having children around in the house. The article " Obama's Right To Gun Control?" explains, " 58% of Americans believe actions should be taken by both the president and congress towards restrictions on guns. 59% believe the shootings will not stop. The other half believe they dont need stricter gun control laws." The world isn't going to become a better place if the violence keeps going. We as people of the United States, as students or parents, need to do something about the situation to keep our environment better and safer.

From past experiences in America I would have thought violence would have decreased more. We shouldn't have to wake up with fear of losing the people we love. America has gone through some tough times and we don't want those times to keep reoccuring. The article " Gun Control After Newton" explains, " In 2012 Newton, Conneticut school shooting happened and there was a fail towards gun control. After this school shooting it was then the movements began." " Many stores have been feeling unsafe and want guns banned near their locations." "About 32,000 annual gun deaths occured in every district in the country." Connecticut is a great example of what we should be doing and how badly we want to be safe. We want the violence to be controled. We need the have stricter gun control.

If we want to decrease the gun shootings or the violence you have to do something or help at least.  We don't want to sit here and watch as many others die. We need to stop the gun violence, racism, and brutality. I believe America is a place to find freedom, equality, and liberty. Nowadays, it seems like people have way too much freedom with guns, which is causing major problems.  People need to understand that the choices you make are for the good of all people.

Sincerely, Giselle
