Gun Control Letter to Future President

Gun control is a bad topic and has lots of problems and we need to stop it.

Dear Future President,

Every day someone is killed from one thing: guns. This topic is always talked about and is controversial. Shootings are somewhat normal now because on how often it happens. I have never had an encounter with a gun, nor have I seen someone die from gun violence. Yet, I have watched T.V. of a family that their child died from guns, and it is truly heart breaking. Future President, we need to make guns somewhat harder to obtain to stop this problem.

The total number of injuries from gun violence in 2016 is 44,224, and deaths are about 11,000 people. These deaths are mostly from young kids being curious which is terrible. We need to make the guns harder for the kids to get them and play with them and numbers would drop tremendously. Also we could just eliminate the guns from the home’s entirely, and that would work just as good. A good example of this is the Columbine high school shooting. In this shooting, two kids Eric Harris, and Dylan Klebold went to Columbine and shot up the school, and it was terrible. Robyn Anderson, a friend of Klebold and Harris, bought the shotguns and the Hi-Point 9mm Carbine at The Tanner Gun Show in December of 1998 from unlicensed sellers. Because Anderson purchased the guns for someone else, the transition constituted an illegal "straw purchase." Klebold and Harris bought the TEC-DC9 from a pizza shop employee named Mark Manes, who knew they were too young to purchase the assault pistol, but nevertheless sold it to them for $500. So, if the guns couldn’t have been sold because they wouldn’t have the guns this would have never happened.

Another thing this could help is police brutality. I know what you are thinking but hear me out. If policemen only had non-lethal weapons, such as a taser or non penetrable bullets, less police brutality will happen. Another idea is to make only highly or very experienced policemen carry guns. So only very good and well known people have the actual weapons. A good example of what could have been stopped by using these methods is Rodney King. He was running away from the cops and when he finally got caught the cops beat him up severely and for absolutely no reason and no one thought about it.

Having weapons to be harder to get can be amazingly changing to the safety of weapons. So president please do something to end this horror we live in today that we consider normal. Please consider my ideas and let’s make this world a better place.

Sincerely, Your average teenager
