Letter to the Next President
Immigration matters because immigrants help all Americans.
Dear President,
Congratulations on becoming the next president. You did well in all of your speeches. I want you to fix an issue: to make immigration legal.
Immigration has many benefits to the U.S. One benefit is that immigrants can work really hard. We can even start our own businesses. According to the Small Business Administration, immigrants are 30 percent more likely to start a business in the United States than people who were born in the U.S., and 18 percent of all small business owners in the United States are immigrants. Also, increased immigration to the United States has increased the earnings of Americans with more than a high school degree. Between 1990 and 2004, increased immigration was good with increasing earnings of Americans by 0.7 percent and is expected to contribute to an increase of 1.8 percent over the long-term, according to a study by the University of California at Davis.
Immigration then helps people because it's good for our economy.
