Ilegal Immigration, Marriage Inequality, & Gun Control

Illegal immigration, marriage inequality, and gun control are my biggest issues that I feel the next president should take care of. We shouldn't have to build a gigantic wall to control immigration and people should have the right to marry the same gender. Also, we shouldn't have to pay so much for college. If we decide to go down the right path and try to accomplish our goals, why should we have to pay thousands of dollars to do so? Here's my opinion on these issues that the U.S. face.

Dear Future President,

Now, I know since you just became the ruler of our entire nation and you have a lot of things on your mind and things to do. However, this will only take you about 5 minutes (Depending on how fast you read :D). Most people don't realize the many issues that citizens are facing that could affect anyone, criminal or not. There are only a few out of the many problems that occur that bother me the most. Those issues include illegal immigration, marriage inequality, and college funds. I hope I get to show you how it affects an average citizen who isn't a billionaire or in politics!

One of the issues that seem unfair to me is marriage inequality. Love is Love and no one can change that no matter what the law says. No one can just give up on the person they love and just completely change who they are. It's like telling Taylor Swift to stop writing songs about her relationships. Crazy, right? If America is a place where everyone gets equal rights and can express themselves, then let people marry who they want to marry! They aren't hurting anyone, they just have a different point of view on a person of the same gender as them. We have bigger problems than people who want to marry the same sex.

Another issue is illegal immigration. Now, immigration isn't a big problem to me. However, illegal immigration is. Many legal immigrants came here to get an education and I have heard stories of former immigrants that have gone to college and became physicists, doctors, nurses, firefighters, and many more. . That's a big help to our economy. My mother and her family came to the U.S. as legal immigrants in May of 1984 to have a better life. In China, their usual dinners were just rice and potatoes. Now, they get good meals and are able to get a good education, successful careers, and live in a much better environment where they can afford things they need. Also, they have great dinners now; WAY better than just a bowl of rice and potatoes! However, illegal immigrants nowadays could cause trouble. If their country was being attacked, their enemies could choose us as a target instead. I feel that building a gigantic wall to keep Mexicans out is not the best solution. That'll just cause chaos and they're still going to get over the wall one way or another.

Last but not least, the use of guns is getting out of control. According to Wikipedia, about 67% of all homicides are due to gun violence. Also. About 1.4 million people have been killed due to gun violence between 1968 and 2011! By maybe being stricter on who is allowed to get firearms, we could at least decrease that number a bit. Maybe doing more background checks could help. I'm still not sure whether I like the idea of ex-felons being able to buy guns. Of course, they might've changed their ways and have a clean slate, but you never know!

Ultimately, there’s so many issues that the United States of America faces daily that many people don't know about. What they also don't know is that it could affect them or others. The ones in particular that I feel should be taken care of is marriage inequality, illegal immigration, and gun control. I feel that those have a big impact on people's lives. We don't want other countries thinking that we have no control over our country, do we? As the new president, I hope you would consider thinking about my concerns on the many issues that can put citizens in awkward positions.

                                                                                                       Jaylen M.   (KY)
