No Homework!

Kids get too much homework! Let's have the teachers cut back on homework and have longer school days to teach all homework in class.

Dear Future President,

I believe that kids get too much homework. I am arguing that there should be longer school days and no additional homework after school. I have multiple reasons why we should not get any homework. Many kids go home and have no idea how to do their homework. Many teachers run out of time explaining the topic in class. Kids should be kids. Too much homework takes away from a creative, well rounded individual.

My first reason for limiting homework is that kids go home and don't know how or are confused on how to do their homework. I asked my class who goes home and is confused on how to do their homework in any subject. The response was 7 out of 10 of my classmates go home confused and do not know what to do. If there was a longer school day, the teacher could explain that topic in more detail. Kids would start their work in class, and if they have any questions the teacher would be there to help. This would help the kids understand the topic overall.

My second reason is that the teachers would be able to cover more instruction during the class time. With longer school days the teachers will have more time to teach the topic in class, so they won't have to give homework to the children. In my math class we go over the homework that was assigned the night before. The harder the homework, the longer it takes to go over it and make corrections. If the class did not understand the homework the teacher will assign a practice page in class. At the end of class the teacher gives us the next lesson of homework without any instruction on how to do it. The longer school day would give the teacher the time to explain the next lesson.

My third reason for not giving homework is kids will have more time for extracurricular activities. Kids could show their full potential besides school work. Kids can show interest in other sports without worrying about getting home and still having to do their homework late at night. This is important because if you get a scholarship for sports in college you also need to be smart. I play many sports and so do my classmates, and I am up until at least 10:30 every night doing homework after sports. On the weekends I miss out doing fun things because I have too much homework.Without homework, kids can find their true passion in life.

In conclusion I believe that kids get too much homework and they should have longer school days. Future President will you please try to put my idea into action to prove that homework is a waste of time and kids should learn everything in class from the teacher? Schools need longer days and no homework so the teachers can explain the topic more in class.Without homework kids can find what they really love to do in life, without worrying about homework.

Sincerely,

Kory
