How is College Tuition Hurting Us?

Reasons to lower the tuition fees.

Dear Future President,

The world is changing everyday but people are stopping in their tracks just because they can’t afford to go to college.

College tuition fees needs to be lowered because many high school graduate students can not afford college, and it is hurting the economy.

High school graduates can not go to college because they can not afford it and lowering fees will allow many more students to go to college.

Studies show that in October, 2013 only 65.9% of high school graduates had enrolled in college(Floyd Norris). This happened due to the amount of graduates that could not afford to pay for college. Even if a person can pay for college, they still need a loan which will put them in debt.

College’s high tuition fees are hurting the economy because today there are many job openings that requires college graduate degrees, and we need more qualified workers.

Study shown shows that high college tuition is hurting the economy. In the article “Fewer U.S. Graduates Opt for College After High School”, it states that students that don’t go to college will have a harder time entering the working class and won’t have a successful career in life. People will either have no jobs or less qualified jobs making a lot less money. With less money, people will buy less, companies will be forced to produce less, causing the economy to shrink(voanews.com).

Many students are getting federal aid to pay for college because of this college has increased their tuitions to pay for qualified professors and maintain their good reputation.

Study shown that if you get a college degree you will receive formal or informal training and experience that high school graduates don’t get(procon.org) With all of this, colleges need to take this opportunity and raise the budget so they can afford more equipment to the school and better teachers.

Overall we have talked about how college tuition are so high that students are not going to college because they don’t have enough money or they are afraid to get student aid and end up with a huge debt in the end. With less qualified people in the economy people will have less money to buy, companies will have to close and the economy will shrink. Colleges must stop taking advantage of federal students aid so more students can get qualified education without going bankrupt in the end. Now the question is what can we do to force colleges lower their tuitions?

Thank You,
