Police Violence/Brutality

A topic that has been taken the world by storm. It needs to be fixed ASAP. Innocent people are getting hurt.

Dear Future President,

The problems roaming around in this country today are becoming a big issue for everyone, including all races and Religions. Stuff going around today like police brutality that was thought of to be not existent anymore has had a comeback to the States over the past 5 years. I know there are some uncontrollable people out there that have threats to police officers but when there is a innocent human being doing nothing that deserves death gets filmed by a bystander, It becomes a big problem. Not only the community where the shootings take place, yet the whole world is getting involved. If there was one topic to focus on and make a change, It would have to be Police Brutality

When I see riots and marches about this topic I think about what we could've done to prevent this from happening and why it's still a problem in the world. We used to call the cops if we were in danger or if something was hurting something. Now, we try to prevent the police because we see them as the person who is doing the most damage. As a kid I was taught to call the police in case of an emergency. Because of how much harm the police are doing I don't think others would call them because they know there could be a bigger case than it should be. I hate to see the world come to this and to be afraid of the people we should trust the most.

Earlier this year there was an incident about a man named Alton Sterling, a 37 year old man was selling CD’s on the curb was stopped and arrested by Baton Rouge Police also known as BRPD. Not only did the cops have him on the ground, Alton was armed. A video has been released by CNN of the scene, The two officers involved claimed to have seen Alton reach for his firearm at the time and the officers decided to fire, which is legal. You are taught to protect yourself in any sort of threat that might happen. In this video there was no clear explanation of Alton reaching for his gun. Coincidentally, from what I saw both officers were on top of him the whole time, blocking the view. The whole world erupted and started to go crazy over something that could go either way. If he was indeed reaching for his gun that should fall on Alton’s mistake.

Through this whole obstacle we have been trying to take control of this situation. There have been plenty of riots all across the states, from Universities to small towns. The thing I don't understand is in Dallas Texas, we need to take it to a level where we need to kill other officers on purpose because they were protecting themselves. The quote “Two wrongs make a right” pops into my head when I first heard about the protesters shooting back at officers. We shouldn't be avoiding the people who should be protecting us.

There are things in this world that need to be changed immediately and I personally believe this should be at the very top. We can't let this keep happening to innocent people, not just in some states but all. I’m not going to do anything, My parents aren't going to do anything and everybody I know aren't going to do anything about it. You're the only one that could at least do something about it. Make the change

Sincerely,

Chance A.
