Dear Future President,

We should have more than 2 dominate political parties. “In fact, since 1852, a candidate from the Republican or a Democratic parties has placed either first or second in the presidential elections, except for one”(Blake, Aaron. "Why Are There Only Two Parties in American Politics?"Washington Post. The Washington Post, n.d. Web. 27 Oct. 2016). That is a number that I don’t like once so ever. Because we only have these to parties, we can’t get anything done in this country. If we have more dominate political parties, we would fix this disagreement. Political parties can fail to respond to citizens’ concerns, one of the 2 parties always win, and third parties are destroyed by these dominate parties.

First off, political parties can fail to respond to citizens concerns. This year especially, political parties aren’t liked that well. Sure we say that we are either Democrat, Republican, or some other third party. But truly, we don’t like how nothing gets done in this country. “In many countries, however, political parties fail to respond to citizens’ concerns and are widely distrusted by the public”(“Political Parties” N.P,n.d.web.27Oct.2016). If we have more dominant parties, then they might be able to respond to citizen concerns.

Secondly, one of the 2 dominant parties always wins. Plurality allows the dominant parties to always win so the third party candidates have no chance. “One of the two parties always wins a plurality”(Blake, Aaron. "Why Are There Only Two Parties in American Politics?"Washington Post. The Washington Post, n.d. Web. 27 Oct. 2016). That just proves my point. If we have more dominant parties, then I wouldn’t be complaining, but there isn’t. This needs to be fix so that people who stand for their beliefs and are in a third party can run for president and have a fair chance.

Lastly, third parties get destroyed by the dominant parties. It’s obvious to see how hard it is to run against the dominant parties, but the dominant parties use that advantage to destroy third parties. “Even though third parties have popped up regularly throughout American history, they have either died, or their ideas have been absorbed by a major party”(“Political Parties”. ushistory.org. Independence Hall Association, n.d.Web.27 Oct. 2016) Political parties have no chance in surviving with these 2 major parties.

In conclusion, Political parties can fail to respond to citizens’ concerns, the 2 major parties always win with plurality, and third parties get demolished by the major parties. The need for these third parties to become major parties are critical, we need them to help desegregate congress and have more citizen appeal. So, we should have more major parties. This will help finish problems and get things done for this country. I have watched the U.S fall apart for the last five years and that’s why we need these parties to prevent this country from falling anymore.
