Healing Partisan Divides
I seek the President's attention on a true moral obligation and pervasive social responsibility: healing the rifts between our political parties.
Dear President:
I seek your attention on a more pervasive and morally relevant issue than any other currently plaguing our country. You have, by the people's choice, been elected president in a time of great political tension. This campaign has been more emotionally driven than any other, and now is the time for recovery after the storm of this election.
Partisan divides are growing ever deeper. Our congress is dominated by a Republican majority unprecedented in recent decades. However, I don't have a bone to pick with our representatives. Rather, Trump's rhetoric has shed new, painful light on the Republican party's faults, and we cannot afford to allow these wounds to deepen in our country. I feel - and many other citizens do, as well - that this situation can turn outright nasty, with parties pitted against each other and ignoring issues to focus on the symbolism of a party.
I, an informed, honest, empathetic citizen, implore you to take action to embrace bipartisan legislature and strengthen the relationship between your party and its rival; your office and our Congress. Our country needs to be nurtured back together, to put our best and most confident foot forward when marking our place on this humble earth, whether we aid refugees, strengthen our veterans' care, or seek to lower student loans.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration in addressing this pertinent matter. I have total faith in our country's ability to take action, with your help, and heal our brutal partisan divides.
Sincerely,
Noelani Christy, concerned teen citizen
