Hey New President
This is a letter from a High School Senior to the new POTUS
Dear Future President,
Please, for the love of God, get us through these next four years in one piece. As a senior in highschool I will be stepping into the real world within the year. Personally my number one issue is college affordability and student debt. I will be college student next year probably racking up a hefty sum of student debt that I will inevitably struggle to pay off. Americans owe nearly $1.3 trillion in student loan debt, spread out among about 44 million borrowers. So I ask you, along with the majority of the young population in the US, to make college and education in general affordable for all so everyone has a chance to succeed in this country.
My second issue that I want to address is the economy, including concerns about jobs, the minimum wage and paid leave. I want to make sure the economy is flourishing. When the economy slows down, it's a domino effect. That's when companies start getting leaner and people get laid off. I will hopefully be starting a career within 5-6 years and if our economy isn't flourishing it might be hard to do so. Please lay a foundation that we can build off of to create a job system that works and will be around for a long time.
This has been a historic and unprecedented election. You will be leading a new generation of citizens in a country that is in distress. It is your actions you take now that will affect generations to come. I ask you to think of the legacy you will leave behind once you presidency is up, and how you will be viewed for the rest of history. Our country is now in your hands, and it's up to you to be a servant to the people. You will be remembered for these next four years for the rest of your life.
But honestly... no pressure.
Your pal,
Danny Brown
