GMO

What are the impacts from GMO's?

Dear Future President of the United States of America,

Our world is ever changing, new technology and innovations come about everyday. While many of the new innovations are good for mankind and our environment. With these innovations come the possible bad outcomes and impacts they can make on the world. I believe that one of the new problems facing our country are GMO’s.

GMO’s are Genetically Modified Organisms, they were created to be more tolerant to bugs, weather, and disease. While GMO seeds have helped farmers to produce more crop with less crop loss it might be at the human expense. We don’t know what the possible side effects could come out of putting GMOs into our bodies may have.

A possible side effect may be a rise in allergies to foods.Today more than ever we hear “peanut free” “gluten free”, when years ago for many it wasnt a problem. “According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), food allergies in children under 18 years of age have increased; from 3.4 percent between 1997 and 1999 to 5.1 percent between 2009 and 2011.” While this isn't hard proof we have to think about the future, will one day we be able to eat anything without the worry of an allergic reaction.

As a society I believe this is a problem that needs to be addressed. I think that you as the next president can make an impact on the issue.

Sincerely,

Abi
