Homeless Issues in America

There's over 600,000 homeless people in america every day. This is causing crime rates to rise.

Dear next President,

There is a big issue with homelessness in america right now. Every Night there is more than 600,000 homeless people out there in the streets struggling just to get by. 25 percent of these people are also suffering from mental illnesses. This means there are almost 150,000 people out there that are a danger to themselves and everyone else surrounding them.

We need to work as a community to help these people who are suffering. I feel like there should be more public housing out there for homeless people to stay. Whether it be soup kitchens, shelters, or even more affordable homing and more job opportunities for these people. Because all of these people in the streets is a danger. Homelessness can cause people to make a lot of bad decisions just to survive on a daily basis. Whether it be selling drugs, robbing people, or selling their bodies in the streets, these activities are becoming a big issue in day to day life and are affecting a lot of people negatively.

But what can we do as citizens? We should be more open to these homeless people, if they're asking for money on a corner, don't give them cash to support their bad habits, buy them a meal and talk to them. Try to find a way to make this person's living situation just a little better. If we all did this there would hopefully be a big change in how we treat the less fortunate.
