Minimum Wage
Minimum wage should be raised in the United States
Dear Future President,
Minimum wage has always been an issue in the United States. I feel that raising it would make a huge, positive impact on our society. For one, most people support their families on a minimum wage job. The average minimum wage is $6.55 to $7.25 an hour. A full time minimum wage worker brings home about $14,500 a year. This cannot support a home with more than 2 people living there. This also can't support a persons daily necessities such as groceries, gas, etc. The real value of minimum wage is 20% less than when President Raegan took office. At the State Union Address on January 20, 2015, President Obama said "Of course nothing helps families makes ends meet like higher wages... and to everyone in this Congress who still refuses to raise the minimum wage, I say this: If you truly believe you could work full time and support a family on less that $15,000 a year, go try it. If not, vote to give millions of the hardest-working people in America a raise." Increasing minimum wage would also increase economic activity and spur job growth, it would also reduce poverty, government welfare spending, and reduce crime rates throughout the United States.
