"Destruction is Heating Up"
Global warming.
Dear President,
It’s amazing how single variables can add up to contribute to a worldwide crisis.
Global warming is influenced by many disasters either waiting to happen, or have already
occurred. Disasters that’ll have havoc worldwide and the people on earth. The issue has
control of many factors that will impact how we live and what we need to live. Addressing
this issue and diminishing the causes of the problem, or preventing them from causing
more harm, will stop global warming from becoming worse and leading to more destruction
that'll have a major affect on the earth.
Sitting on the couch, the news coming on tv, the news anchors listing the many
different occurrences that have been caused due to global warming. Many of them that
abuse what I love about the world. Plants dying because of the change in climate, animals
dying because of the loss of plants or because their habitats are affected by the rising
temperatures. Wildlife is dying. life on earth isn’t the same and has been changing over the
years, because we didn’t take charge of the problem before it became severe.
Human’s actions contribute to the cause of global warming because of the waste
they create. Greenhouse gases has the majority impact on the issue. Carbon dioxide
gases has increased majorly over the years and is causing the earth’s heat to increase
because of the amount of sun rays that the earth is trapping. Due to the burning of fossil
fuels, the amount of gas has increased over the years. Earth’s average temperature is
essential for life, because we and animals and plants have already adjusted and built a life
based on the average temperate. But the greenhouse effect has caused the earth to
become warmer, because of how much of the sun’s rays are trapped. According to Nasa
Global climate change, “About half the light reaching Earth's atmosphere passes
through the air and clouds to the surface, where it is absorbed and then radiated
upward in the form of infrared heat,” then stating that 90 percent of the heat is
absorbed by greenhouse gases, such as CO2 and fossil fuel gases. After, it travels
back to earth’s surface and increases the temperature; repeating for over 50 years.
Different gases all take part in making the effect of global warming worse; water
vapor, carbon dioxide gas, methane, nitrous oxide, and chlorofluorocarbons. For
example, water vapor radiates heat back to the earth’s surface and increases
temperature, which also causes evaporation for bodies of water, causing the
production for more water vapor, repeating the cycle. Human activity is increasing
and we were completely unaware on how we were affecting the earth over the years,
until the situation began to impact how we live and our surroundings.
The causes of global warming are severe. Importantly, climate change has
generated a domino effect and has branched off into individual troubles. First of all, since
the temperature of the earth is rising, glaciers are already melting, so, sea levels are
growing. There is a large amount of fresh water that was trapped in ice caps and glaciers,
which are melting straight into the ocean and is becoming undrinkable; critical because
freshwater is becoming scarce and we are already in a drought. According to National
Geographic, “Floods and droughts will become more common. Rainfall could decline by 10
percent over the next 50 years. Less fresh water will be available,” affecting our water
source and our need on living off of fresh water. Also, the habitats for animals, in places
where the glaciers are land, are melting and triggering difficulty for how they live, killing
them. Also, as water evaporation increases, clouds accumulate the water and rain is more
frequent. Next, the warm, evaporated seawater will rise into a huge amount of warm heated
air and make hurricanes. Stated on NASA, “ The intensity, frequency and duration of North
Atlantic hurricanes, as well as the frequency of the strongest (Category 4 and 5) hurricanes,
have all increased since the early 1980s,” which is dangerous for people living on the
coast. Not only will it cause more hurricanes, but, the heat is sparking excessive forest
fires, therefore, ruining food sources for the wildlife, as well as the animals homes. Not only
leaving species vulnerable, but killing trees, which provide oxygen. Overall, the effects of
global warming has a chain reaction and is beginning to kill many species.
Ultimately, we can diminish the amount of carbon dioxide, that is being produced
and polluted in the air, from cutting down on burning fossil fuel. According to Union of
Concerned Scientists, “Dramatically reducing our use of fossil fuels—especially
carbon-intensive coal—is essential to tackle climate change,” saying that because we burn
too much coal, we can reduce the amount we use. As a solution, we can prevent power
plants from releasing toxic gases, or companies that may also produce one of the many
gases that trigger global warming. At any chance, we can possibly prevent forest fires from
occurring so often. Also, we should use renewable energy, because burning fuels isn’t
essential and because it is more efficient. Mainly, we have to adapt to the heat, restrain any
future destruction from the causes of global warming, and address the tragic problems that
have already occurred.
In conclusion, this is an important subject that I hope you can take into account.
Global warming has caused damage to the United States, as well as the world. Confronting
and trying to solve the issue will possibly make the event better. But, take into account the
problems caused, that are affecting people, animals, and economy. The citizens of the
United States depend on you to resolve this issue and keep it from getting worse. The
future is in your hands, use your power wisely.
Sincerely,
Kaitlyn Khemmanivong
