Is Homework Healthy?

Homework is a normal, everyday thing for most students, but is it healthy?

    Dear Mr. President,

Researchers find that too much homework can be unhealthy for students and lower their academic grade. Homework can cause depression if it throws the balance of their life out of proportion. Some homework can do nothing in improving someone’s grade or test scores. It’s not just the students that get over whelmed, also the parents. If homework is too hard for a child to do, then they would ask their parent for help. Well some of these assignments even confuse adults so how do teachers expect their students to know how to do it?

Even teachers are saying that it’s unnecessary. “‘Most of us, even attorneys, do not do this. Bottom line: students have too much homework and most of it is not productive or necessary.’” said Tonya Noonan Herring a former high school english teacher. And because there is much unneeded homework, students are starting to get depression. Depression is a disorder that can make anyone sad or depressed and not act themselves anymore. It can also make them hate themselves and want to hurt or even kill themselves. Homework also causes students to get stressed which can wear you down and make you sick both mentally and physically. Stress can affect your emotions, behavior, thinking ability, and physical health. Too much homework can also cause migraines, ulcers and other stomach problems, sleep deprivation, exhaustion and weight loss. This can affect anyone who gets homework and is busy a lot. Even if a student isn’t that busy then the homework sure will make them. Also students won’t have enough time to live life as a student anymore, before they know it they will have a job and still not have time to live life.

In conclusion, I would like if students got less homework and/or more time to do it. Homework isn’t just bad for a student's academic grade but also their health. It causes too much weight on students shoulders and no time to live their lives while they don’t have a job.
