Lowering The Age Of Alcohol
The drinking age in the U.S. is at 21. That may be lowered and I have some reasons for it not to be.
Dear Next President,
In the United States, we have all of these laws and rules and the one that could be changed is the law about the age of drinking alcohol. In most cases, alcohol is illegal for humans to drink under the age of 21. People around the United States say that they want the drinking age lowered. I believe that the drinking age should stay at 21 to protect the US population and to protect lives of the people.
Some people might say that it is okay to drop the drinking age down because they might use some responsible people and say, "They don't get drunk all of the time for fun. So, what they want to say is that maybe if other people had more responsibility, then maybe they could handle a lowered drinking age.
I believe that they are wrong because the brains of 16 year olds are just not mature enough to drink alcohol, because it could severely damage their brains. According to npr.org, the average human brain does not reach full maturity until the age of 25. After 25 years of age, that is when the decision making comes in and you will make the correct decisions . Also, there have been many cases of drunk driving accidents with under-aged drinkers.
So, Mr. or Mrs. President, please don't make a change and keep the drinking age at 21. Although people may be upset, this is one of those things that will help our country stay brilliant, and also help the people of this country stay healthy.
Sincerely,
Pierce
