Minimum Wages

Dear Mr. President My name is Steven Zou and I have lived in Philadelphia since I was seven years old. Throughout my years here, I have constantly been seeing people that are in poverty. this may cause the population in Philadelphia or the U.S. To decline. One of the root causes of this amount of people in poverty is due to minimum wages. The statistics surrounding minimum wages is that it caused a high increase of the people in poverty, amount of people in deep poverty, and how this country is declining. Imagine you lost your job. You go to the supermarket, but your debit card is declined. You go to the bank and your account is gone. How will you feel? Well, I feel like that in Pennsylvania the minimum wage is $7.25 per hour which is the same as the Federal Minimum Wage and don’t that seems to low to give to people. Approximately 8% of Pennsylvania’s hourly workers are paid at or below the minimum wage and I think it should be reduced to 0%, everyone should get paid more than the minimum wage or the minimum wage should increase. What if you are poor or need money and you only get paid below or at the Pennsylvania's Minimum Wage, what will you do? For instance, if it was me I will not want that to happen and I think that the minimum wage in Pennsylvania should If the idea of minimum wage makes you nervous, in Philadelphia our deep-poverty rate is 12.2 percent which is nearly 185,000 people, including about 60,000 children(Lubrano). While out of the whole U.S., the deep-poverty rate is 6.3 percent which is nearly half of Philadelphia’s deep-poverty rate(Lubrano). Additionally, as I said as of 2015 to 2016, P.A. Minimum Wage is $7.25 and approximately 8% of Pennsylvania’s hourly workers are paid at or below the minimum wage. Based on these facts or data, I think that in P.A. The minimum wage should increase. You can see how there are a lot of issues on minimum wage, imagine if everyone in Pennsylvania is in poverty, if nobody can earn enough money to help themselves or their family, what will this country be like in a year or two. If you was in poverty what will you feel. If you feel like that you don’t want that to happen to you, you should consider others too. What if no one in Philadelphia is able to get enough money and a lot of people is starving or dying what will you do. As I end this, I would like to say that minimum wage is a huge impact on our society and it is causing our country to decline rapidly. This isn’t an issue that only impacts the people who care about it, minimum wages has a negative impact on our economy due to how other people who are not in poverty to lead to poverty. We can’t keep on having people descending into poverty, so I urge you as the next president to increase the minimum wage or ask companies to pay their workers more.
