Stop Killing Innocent Children
Would you choose not to give a child life?
Dear Future President,
As a young woman in this great nation, I hold a concern for the future of this country. I am writing this to you today because it is an important topic to me and I would love to share what I think with you. My name is Brandi Rosonke and I am a sophomore at Coon Rapids-Bayard High School. Everyone in my English class is being encouraged to contact you about an issue that we each individually feel is important to us.
The issue that always catches my attention is abortion and I would like to share with you the mindset that I have for it. I am pro-life. Abortion should be prohibited. It should not be allowed because it is not the only way to deal with an unexpected child, every person deserves to live, and even though the baby is still in the womb, abortion is considered murder. Opponents of abortion, or of abortion for any reason other than to save the life of the mother, argue that there is no rational basis for distinguishing the fetus from a newborn infant; each is totally dependent and potentially a member of society, and each possesses a degree of humanity. Whether and to what extent induced abortions should be permitted, encouraged, or severely repressed is a social issue that has divided theologians, philosophers, and legislators for centuries. The more advanced the pregnancy, the greater the risk to the female of mortality or serious complications following an abortion.
There are plenty of other ways to go about dealing with an unplanned pregnancy instead of going straight to abortion. There is no sense in killing a baby when adoption can be the saviour to most of those types of situations. In doing so, no innocent lives would be ended, the unplanned baby is able to find a home that wants it, and the baby will be able to live a life instead of not having a chance at all. It is understandable that choosing to have an abortion is a difficult decision, but because there are other alternatives in handling the situation, there are regrets in the decision made, and women don’t know what they are doing until it’s too late to realize that it was a mistake.
Adoption kills three birds with one stone. With having a baby to give away, adoption makes the mother happy for the baby, the baby happy for living, and a new family happy because of what they have been longing for without ending any lives that deserve to live. Some people may say that women may not have had the choice of becoming pregnant so it should be up to the woman to decide what she wants for the baby. While this statement is fair for the woman, no one is paying attention to the fairness of the baby’s life. Yes, the woman might be satisfied if there is no baby to care for, but there is one innocent life that the woman is taking away just because she doesn’t want anything to do with it. This reasoning leads back to there being other alternatives for handling this type of unplanned situation. Yes, abortion is a hard decision to make, but it shouldn’t be.
People should focus on how they are going to set their child up for well lived lives and not on whether or not they should get an abortion and end a life. In the long run, I’d like to see abortion become illegal.
Thank you for your time,
Brandi Rosonke
