Gun Violence

Guns should not be used for killing for no apparent reason. Use them wisely, people have lives too.

Dear Next President,

Throughout the years there has been a lot of shootings in the United States. It has become a huge problem for a lot of people. According to BBC News, 13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015, according to the Gun Violence Archive, and 26,819 people were injured [those figures exclude suicide]. ... Of all the murders in the US in 2012, 60% were by firearm compared with 31% in Canada, 18.2% in Australia, and just 10% in the UK. We as people of the United States need to do something about this.

In America there has been over thousands and thousands of people murdered, injured etc.. People without permits for guns shouldn’t have guns, they don't need them. Young children are getting killed, injured, scarred for life over guns. Men do think they should have guns in their household because of robberies, but they need up to date permits in order to get guns. Always leave guns where kids will not find it; it's more safer. According to Celisa Calacal there has been a whole lot of incidents where police officers use guns inappropriately, police shoot black guys just for getting their registration out of their car. The year isn’t over yet, and police have already killed at least 800 people — many of whom were unarmed, mentally ill, and people of color. - Celisa Calacal.

As a family member that has been affected by one of these incidents, I would like to explain my situation. My uncle; Hector Rivera, was brutally killed by someone who shouldn't be having a weapon. My uncle wasn't served justice, people need to be more careful. Many families are affected by this. This shouldn't be happening today in this world. One of the families that were affected by this was Hessie Williams. She said "The code that they living by is either kill or be killed and that's crazy.” She Lost her son in August when he was fatally shot during a school event. Many and many more families are well affected by this. Just be aware of it.

So in conclusion we as Americans need to put our foot down and stop this problem. No one should be killed for some dumb reason. I am very thankful that you took your time into reading this. Just know that we all care for each other, no one wants to lose family.

Sincerely,

Liandra Rivera
