LGBTQ INEQUALITY IN AMERICA

OUR COUNTRY SHOULD MOVE FORWARD WITH THE EQUALITY OF LGBTQ RIGHTS. MINORITIES LIKE LGBTQ 'S ARE SCARED THAT YOU WILL TAKE AWAY THEIR RIGHTS.

Dear Donald Trump,

Before you were elected as president, LGBTQ people felt protected in the arms of this country and supported by our once president. Currently with your disrespect and unsupported nature towards LGBTQ people all over the United States, there has been anger and fear widespread throughout this community of people. Thousands of beautiful, like minded individuals raised their voice against your unequal ideas in protest. Our current situation could be compared to unequal rights for blacks in the 1960’s. Millions of people paraded the streets of Washington D.C. African American’s were not the only people there protesting, there was different colors, sizes, and religions, all fighting for the freedom of black people from segregation. Our country should be influenced positively from you, not shown that sexuality makes us “un-American”. As President, you should work to improve the lives of everyone in our country and push forward to grow instead, your actions would seem to move this free land backward in time!

LGBTQ friends that I have are frustrated and scared. They fear that you are going to take away their rights and segregate them from everyone else. The fact that 15 year olds are crying because they know that you have the power to make life miserable is staggering. With this new generation of young adults, we are taught to accept everyone for who they are no matter what race, sexuality, or religion. America should be home for every type of american, and not filled with fear. You have no right to be claiming that you will call for a total shutdown of Muslims entering the united states, considering them all terrorists, when you inflict terror into millions of LGBTQ people all over the United States.

Not many anti-Obama protests occurred during the time of his election. To add, when they were they were violent and Republican lead. Anyways there have been multiple anti-Trump protests in populous cities such as Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. All of these protests were entirely peaceful. These people voice their opinions, the least you can do is respect them. The foundation of the U.S was built on the ideas of freedom and equality, you should honor them.

Thank you and with kindness,

Aden Hurst

All sophomore students at Metea Valley High School wrote letters to President-Elect Trump, voicing their issues on ideas that are important to them. These letters were part of a three-week project, where we learned about rhetorical situation; types of claims; types of evidence; and embedding quotes.
