Why gun laws should be stricter
This is why gun laws should be stricter
Dear Future President,
My name is Henry V. from Grand Rapids Michigan and I am 14, every day, 90 people die due to gun related incidents. The reason this is happening is because you can currently go to Kmart and buy a fully automatic assault rifle with a 30 minute background check. According to Wikipedia there has been 1 or more school shooting a week since the Columbine High school massacre.
This is absolutely insane and I can see that some people may disagree with on this because "the constitution says I can own a gun" well actually it doesn't. The constitution states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." and the last time I checked, having a fully automatic rifle is not you being a "well regulated militia" and you're not "protecting the security of a free state." Currently any semi automatic assault weapon is permitted for open or concealed carry with a license. According to Wikipedia the longest anyone has had too wait for a license was 2.5 hours. To clarify, Concealed carry weapons are hidden on your person and open carry is not hide on your person. I do not feel safe walking around the grocery store with the butt of a machine gun sticking in my face.
I know a lot of people who have been killed, injured, and affected by guns. My Mom's best friend's son was killed when a man shot through a window at a gas station in Florida. This kid was 15 at the time and was doing nothing wrong. The NRA currently has supported the choice of open carry, I went to downtown Washington DC and there was a man with an AK-12, guarding a African American man screaming that Caucasian people are the devil. This is very scary for me because I could have been shot right there on the spot because I am apparently the devil.
I think that we should make gun laws stricter because everyday people do not feel safe seeing automatic weapon walking down the street. Thank you for reading my letter.
