Drunk Driving

They should make the drinking and driving alcohol limit to 0.00%

Drinking and Driving

Dear Future President,

Drinking and driving has been a problem in the U.S. for awhile now and it’s time to make a change. As of now, the limit of drinking and driving is 0.08%, but I believe that is still not enough. The U.S. should change the percent to 0.00%; even though, the limit has changed to a lower percentage from years ago, many are still dying and or having serious injuries.

Many lives are being taken because of the influence of alcohol and then driving. Alcohol slows down the body’s functions and it also changes their perception and judgment on things. When you put that and driving together you most likely won’t have the best result. Many people these days are concerned about the drinking and driving, even teenages and young adults. From the ages 18 to 29, 88% are most likely to state that drinking and driving is a very serious problem that needs to be fixed. By lowering the alcohol limit to 0.00%, we could stop many lives from being lost.

In 2007, the death toll from teenage drunk-driving accidents was 1,393. That means almost everyday 4 teenagers died because of the poor decision to drink and drive. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens, and about ¼ of those involve an underage drinking driver. Everyday we are losing lives to careless thinking and it needs to be stopped. If we lower the limit to 0.00% we could try stopping the problem so that most wouldn’t even take a sip because they know they have to drive home.

This may not solve all of the drinking and driving problems, but I’m sure it will solve many. We are losing too many lives due to this problem and something has to change. By lowering the limit to nothing at all, many will now think that they can’t drink anything alcohol at all because their the one driving home. This may also make many mad at first, but this will save lives and also save the innocent. What if it was someone closest to you that died from a drunk driver? Wouldn’t you want to stop that from continuing to happen?
