Donating and wasting food

The US is wasting too much food and donating food should be bigger.

Dear Future President,

My name is Piper and my issue is wasting food. I believe that the US is wasting too much food and, donating food could help our country in many ways.

Everyone wastes food at some time, but I believe that we could all cut down on doing so. For example at school they force us to take unwanted foods that we don't want and we just end up throwing it out. In many places I see workers tossing food that is edible, because it's the end of the work day or past it's for sell date.

The issue is that many people can't provide their families or themselves with food. Also many places throw away edible food just because of liability risks. Another issue is that most of our water supply goes to our food supply. The amount of food we waste also means we are also wasting a lot of water. The main reason stores throw away food is there fear of being sued, but the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act prohibits this. Donating food can also help supply later food. Contributing food to farms, can supply animal food or even compose for soil.

So please help embrace the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act. Make donating food an important part in stores to even schools. Everyone could have a balanced diet and even become more healthy. This result in less hungry, less wasted food, and even less wasted water.

Sincerely,

Piper Gonzales
