Medical Care

The next president needs to improve the medical care system within jobs, families, and for kids.

Dear President,

One of the most important issues we have at our current moment is health whether it being not being able to afford it or simply not qualifying. Currently, I know that we have the system know as Obama Care and a lot of people have said it has helped them pay off medical bills for people with cancer and for low-income people, but what about those who just can't afford or immigrants in some cases.

There needs to be a new system that not only is more affordable and doesn't leave people broke. Also, that care for a variety of people within the U.S. maybe even giving some sort of free care even though it seems like a long shot.

Currently, my family doesn't have any health care insurance and my dad is the only one who works. So what if something were to happen to him we won't be able to bills and maintain to keep a roof over our heads. My dad has been working with a company that makes motorcycle seats for Harley Davidson for his entire life. And about a month ago he started to have a pain in the abdomen and because we don't have any health care we can't go to a hospital to get him checked out so they go across the boarded to a place call Tijuana.

That is where he got an x-ray to find out what it was, it turned out to be a hernia and apparently my dad had been dealing with that pain for almost a year but decided not to tell us about it and continue.  Not only did we not have health care insurance but we didn't have the money to be able to pay for the surgery or any hospital expenses which are expensive and my dad's work didn't want to cover his surgery with work discount. So my dad got his surgery done in Tijuana because it was much more affordable than here in the U.S. and honestly how I was scared I didn't know how he would be afterward.

Thank god the surgery had gone well and he is all right now currently recovering at home. But still, right now he is not getting paid for recovering and only recently I found out that my dad had filed a lawsuit against the company he works for. So when he does fully recover he might not have a job and then what, all because the cost of medical treatment is too much and we can't expand it to cover so much more people can be covered.

So I hope the next president can come up with a better form of health care, one that is more affordable and flexible. And one that we can all depend on, and not have to fear anymore about not being able to pay for medical bills.

Sincerely,

Gustavo Gonzalez
